Romy Palstra is not only a fanatical Motiflow designer but also very creative with textiles and yarn. In combination with our great summer promotion -21% discount on Poly Outdoor- this is, of course, the opportunity to invite Romy as a guest blogger. Her garden could also use a refreshing ‘Poly Outdoor touch’! 😉
Garden make-over
For some time, my garden was an absolute mess. Think: a large amount of garbage surrounded by several weathered items that were put together. Until last month. It was time for a change. During the summer, it’s an absolute pleasure to work outside or enjoy a BBQ in the evening. Unfortunately, this was not possible, because there wasn’t enough space to sit down.
I did some research on Pinterest and decided to build a couch made of wooden pallets. Luckily, my father was able to get his hands on a lot of pallets I could use for this project.
Moreover, I’m all thumbs and those thumbs definitely aren’t green. Therefore I asked my father to help me with this project. First, I had to get rid of all the garbage, to create enough space for the couch. As said before, I found a lot of inspiration on Pinterest, but my father decided to start building without a plan. Within a few hours, he built the complete couch.
Cosy …
Although you can find lots of beautiful examples of gardens on the internet, the reality is that this is hard to copycat. One of the things that inspired me, was the most amazing accessories other people used in their photos. Dressing a garden is so important. With just furniture, I couldn’t create the cozy feeling I was looking for. Online I found some nice cushions, but then I came up with the idea to make my own cushions with my own prints. Much more original and it gives the possibility to create the perfect garden cushion.
Happy patterns
A friend told me that a baby mattress is ideal for an outdoor cushion because these are large and soft. Motiflow offers outdoor fabric with your own pattern or patterns from other designers. Therefore I could make a slipcover for the outdoor cushion. The outdoor fabric keeps the cushion nice, even when the couch is wet. And when something is accidentally spilled on it, there is no fuss.
I chose to make an outdoor cushion to sit on, with some other cushions on the side. Want a cushion with the fern or the insect print for yourself? Soon you can find these in my Etsy shop!
