Do I like being in this space? This question lies at the heart of the work of Ilse van Stoltz. She enjoys exploring the creative boundaries within the confines of an assignment. Her interior design company and art studio WEST EGGS Creatives is aimed mainly at hospitality design and custom art.
From dancer to owner of a clothing boutique. Whatever Ilse does, the art of creation plays a major part. At present, she sees herself as a self-made designer with a, what she calls, soft spot for saturated colors, natural materials and statement shapes.
The start of WEST EGG Creatives in 2017 brought all her creative ideas together. “When I make a design for an interior, i’ll go about it very conceptually. For whom am I making a design? What desires are there and what is the purpose? Then I ask myself the most essential question of all: Do I like being in this space?”
Daring own approach
Ilse will design a pattern for a fabric or wallpaper with the end product and target audience in mind: “I always think about who would love the pattern. My style has multiple faces, but it is always a tad tough or with a vintage touch to it.”
Nature plays a big part in her designs, as well as shapes and contrasts. In this she is not afraid to change it up: “From very minimalistic to daring accented patterns, I’ll always look for my own approach, within what is commercially viable.”
Ilse enjoys her old-fashioned flowers, but does not let it dull her romantic prints. “My biggest source of inspiration is the English cottage style or the exotic botanica."
“In my flowers and plants, you’ll always find an obvious play with lines, digitally or hand-painted. Rarely without a vintage hint!”
Monkey meadow is a playful translation of every jungle pattern into a flower pattern. The small monkeys on the massively enlarged flowers create the illusion of trees and make you feel as though you are still looking at a jungle.
The different color variations have been chosen on purpose to appeal to both young and old.
