After we enjoyed a beautifull summer and lots of picknicks it's time to go back inside. With a blanket on the couch, watching a serie while you are sipping a big cup of thee and secretly eating spice nuts. Fall also means a new wardrobe. Time for long clothing, warm woolen vests and sweaters. That's why this month we will focus on the Cotton Jersey fabric, which is perfect for clothing due to the softness and stretch. Therefore the theme of this month will be: children's and baby clothes!
This month we wil interview another designer, share at least four (!) DIY's and we will tell you all the ins and outs of the Cotton Jersey fabric from Motiflow. To inspire you even more, we'll also show you a few Cotton Jersey products that are made by web shops!
Play around with colour
According to us, a children's room isn't complete without a lot of colour. That's why we enjoyed ourselves with lots of toys, cuddle toys, beautifull storage baskets and colorful pictures on the wall.
Do you recognize the tent frame from the DIY tent we made last month? We re-used it as a clothing rack! Isn't that durable? A (outside and inside) play tent and a fun clothing rack - all in one. The clothing pieces with the Motiflow-prints totally finish the children's room. Even at our age, we wouldn't mind to play and take a nap in this room!
Webshops using Motiflow-patterns
Webshops and crafty, unique shops, we love it! That's why we are very enthusiastic when they use Motiflow-patterns to create hand crafted items. For this photoshoot we asked to web shops that use Motiflow fabrics and they fit perfectly in the children's clothes theme! Because even though we would like to, we can't make all these products ourselves, let alone as beautifull as these webshops do! That's why we are giving them a spot on the Motiflow-blog. We borrowed the skirt 'Romy' and the triangles-legging 'Fleur' from Stoffeti Atelier.
''Stoffetti Atelier is young and unique. Beautifull fabrics (with Motiflow-prints), lively details, unique and exclusive. That's Stoffetti! Almost everything is hand made in our own atelier," says Jolanda.
Jolanda mainly sells clothing for girls in her web shops, like dresses, leggings and skirts. Not only did we fell in love with the clothes she makes, we also love her styling and photography (which you can find on her web shop and Instagram). Are you curious about her clothes? Than check out her web shop.
A bag for Raaf
Next to the clothing from Stoffetti we also borrowed some accessoires Mus en Moos made from Motiflow fabrics.
'' Ingrid is the creative mind behind Mus en Moos and is mom of two boys. Vos and Raaf. She's always looking for new ideas and projects, and that shows off in her big collection. We especially like the children's bag with raven for her little son Raaf (pattern by PIETenKEES). ''
In her webshop you'll find leggings, skirts, toddler bags but also a changing pad. Most of the fabrics she uses are from Motiflow. Curious about her products are looking for inspiration to sew something yourself? Check out her webshop.

Composition Cotton Jersey
Jersey (tricot) is known as an elastic cotton t-shirt fabric. The term comes from the French word ' tricot 'which means knitting, so it is indeed a knitted fabric. Because jersey is knitted, the fabric is stretchable. Often, elastane or lycra is processed in the fabric, which makes the fabric firmer and increases the shape retention.
Our Cotton Jersey is a mix of 94% cotton and 6% elastane fibre (180 gram). Due to the elastic, soft structure it’s a perfect fabric for clothes (180 gram) as well as baby clothes.
Washing instructions
Machine wash warm (max 30℃) or cool on a gentle/delicate setting. We advise not to put Jersey in a tumble dryer. If required, iron using standard settings with the printed side down for best results.
Due to the elastic the Cotton Jersey is only available in the following width: 150cm. You can order it from 1 meter: € 23,99 per meter.
Getting started with the Cotton Jersey fabric
After you ordered your Cotton Jersey fabric (maybe with your own print?) it will be printed especially for you. You will receive the fabric within 7-9 workdays. We can understand you want to start right-away with a DIY. But maybe it’s a good thing to know something more about how to work with the Cotton Jersey? Of course we tested the fabric for you, so we summed up our ‘findings’!
Use a jersey needle
Work with a special needle for jersey fabric, so a ballpoint needle.A ballpoint needle has a round tip and pushes the fibres away when sewing rather than piercing through them and tearing them. You can ask for it in a hobby shop.
Don't pull the fabric
When you're sewing, never pull the fabric from the back or hold on to the fabric as this will result in puckering. Gently guide your fabric when stitching through the layers.
Finish
The Motiflow Cotton Jersey is being cut with a laser, therefore you will have almost none threads when you receive the fabric. But when you start to cut the fabric, eventually it will unravel a little. Also, because of the elastan, it will roll up a little. For the skirt we thought it looks as a fun detail, so we didn't flank it. But it's just what you like! If you don't like the fabric to curl up, than make sure you finish the seams.

Children's room inspiration
Because we (the Motiflow crew) don't have kids (yet), we made a children's room out of nothing. How? Well, we collected beautifull baskets for all the toys and stuffed animals, made a clothing rack and filled it with beautifull clothes. Also we decorated the wall with a garland and cute cards! It's as simple as that. We are curious about your children's room and maybe selfmade (Motiflow) items. Do you want to share them with #diymotiflow? We like! 🙂
Do you sew kids clothing as well?
Do you have a webshop your self and do you use Motiflow-fabrics? Than let us know with a reply or e-mail, maybe we can use your products for a new photoshoot and promote your webshop on the blog.
