September, we all hope on a beautiful late summer. This month will be all about the Poly Outdoor fabric, so it wasn't hard to think of this month's theme: Picnic! Enjoying a snack with a drink, laying in the grass and having lots of fun with friends and family around you. Thinking back about that awesome vacation that went by so fast, and making new creative plans for this fall.
In September you will get to know more about a Motiflow-designer and we will share three DIY's! In this blog we will tell you all about the Poly Outdoor fabric from Motiflow.
Spread out that picnic rug!
With all your stuff in your bike basket cycling towards the park, the beach or just towards your own garden. Picnic is something you do in style! Spread out your (selfmade!) picnic rug, set up that tent, dress it up with some pillows for some extra comfort and sit down with some magazines. Pour yourself some lemon-mint water, juice, eat some fresh buns, fruit or those tasty raisin buns and your late summer session is complete. Speaking about all this food, how about a picknicklunch with your friends? Well, we have some ideas for that as well.
Picnic in style
For this month's Picnic theme we chose three fun DIY's to make with the Poly Outdoor fabric. You can already spot them on the photo's in this blog, like the fancy picnic rug with the oranges-pattern. We even chose two prints, so you can variate. Curious about how you can make your own picnic rug? Than make sure you come back next week for this DIY. In the mean time.. you can already look for your favourite picnic pattern at Motiflow!
DIY outdoor
Because we got it going with the Poly Outdoor fabric we were challenged to think about fun DIY items to make for outside. Because this is were the Poly Outdoor fabric (it's all in the name, right?) is particularly suited for. This fabric is waterproof and therefore super easy to clean or wipe off with a towel. You don't have to be afraid it becomes muddy!
Fun garden decoration!
Because of it's fitting for outdoor materials, we came up with a lot of ideas for the garden. Like outdoor pillows with fun, trendy prints instead of those uni-colored outdoor pillows. Forgot to bring your pillows inside the other evening? No problem, because the Poly Outdoor fabric is water-resistant. Isn't that ideal. Or make cheerful garlands that can stay hanging outside the whole summer. So it's always a party outside. Or make a cover for your barbecue that no one else has. How about this bbq print?
Let's go to the beach!
We often carry loads of stuff with us to the beach. Show off with a Motiflow-printed kite, or make an awesome parasol (we got inspired by this print). You can also make a sunshade from the Poly Outdoor fabric. It also works well as a wind barrier, because this fabric has a steady and tight structure!
Showertime!
Talking about waterproofness. How about a unique shower curtain? Or a little bit easier to make and totally in trend: a garden poster with a jungleprint! We also saw this floral plant bag made from our Poly Outdoor.
We are full of ideas. Take a look at #DIYmotiflow to see what others made from the Motiflow-fabrics! And keep an eye on this blog, because this month we will inspire you with 3 DIY's.
Poly Outdoor
Our Poly Outdoor is a lightweight polyester with an incredibly high, stunning color-intensity (225 gram)! And as you can see it’s water resistant, the waterdrops lay on the fabric. It also has a high color intensity, for the fabric-experts: it has a color-intensity of 7! That's almost the highest possible and that's what makes this fabric so unique. This means that the fabric almost doesn't discolor in the sun. Perfect for making cushions for a terrace, a table spread for that first dinner outside, a beanbag or for those cool plant bags!
Available on different widths
Poly Outdoor is just like other fabrics from Motiflow available on 50, 100 and 150cm width. You can machine wash it warm (max 40℃) or cool on a gentle/delicate setting. Our advise is to dry this fabric on air. Because the fabric is so stiff it will not fold. So you don't have to iron. Isn't that handy?
You can order all fabrics from Motiflow from 1 meter. The Poly Outdoor fabric is available on the following widths:
- 50 cm: € 8,99 per meter
- 100 cm: € 16,99 per meter
- 150 cm: € 23,99 per meter
Getting started with the Poly Outdoor fabric
After you ordered your Poly Outdoor fabric (maybe with your own print?), it will be printed especially for you. You will receive the fabric within 7-9 workdays. We can understand you want to start right-away with a DIY. But maybe it’s a good thing to know something more about the Poly Outdoor fabric? How does it go with sewing? Are there benefits or things to take into account? Of course we tested the fabric for you, so we summed up our ‘findings’!
Use a solid needle
The Poly Outdoor fabric is a thicker than the other fabrics, that's why you should use a solid needle. The sewing machine hast to put in a little more effort for sewing trough multiple layers of Outdoor fabric. So be kind and help your sewing machine a little! Guide the fabric trough the machine, so it can sew straight trough the thicker parts (like corners). After that you can race your way further trough the fabric!
Helping yourself a little as well!
A big plus of the Poly Outdoor is that it doesn't wrinkle or fold. Unfortunately for sewing this means that the pinning is a little bit harder. The stof is waterproof so it has a coating, which makes the fabric glide easily.
Tip!
When you fold the edges, use clothes pins to avoid gliding! Than you also have your hands free for the pinning. Will make it a lot easier!
Finish
The Motiflow Poly Outdoor fabric is being cut with a laser, therefore you will have almost none threads when you receive the fabric. But when you start to cut the fabric, eventually it will unravel a little. So always fringe the fabric! It also looks neat and waaaay more luxurious. And of course: always use a fabric scissor!
Have you experienced some findings yourself with the Poly Outdoor fabric? Let us know, so we can update this blog with more tips!
We really enjoyed our picnic. Not only the picnic itself, but also the preparation, styling and the photoshoot. And of course searching for awesome Motiflow-prints for outside! We are curious about your ideas. Which stuff would you take with you on a picnic? Which pattern would you choose for an outside pillow? Is there a DIY you would like to make? Let us know in the comments!
